The Friends of Mansfield Traquair Centre

We are a voluntary organisation providing trained guides who are committed to showing you the wonderful murals which Phoebe Anna Traquair painted in the 1890s.

Known as ‘Edinburgh’s Sistine Chapel‘, the Mansfield Traquair Centre is a former Catholic Apostolic Church designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. However, the outstanding feature is the scheme of mural decorations.

Our dedicated volunteers are on duty on Open Days, offer tours to visitors, answer questions and manage the sales desk.

Volunteers are most welcome to guide or assist at our Open Days and help us with the ongoing maintenance of the building and the murals.

Last week marked International Volunteer Day – so we want to say a big Thank You to all our Friends who volunteer their time to help keep Phoebe’s marvellous murals open to the public. This photo shows a group of Friends on a visit to the Thistle Chapel at St Giles to see more of Phoebe’s work.

See our Visit page for details of our opening days and times – entry is free – donations are always welcome!
